Program Description

The most important lesson in Safety Management is simple: good safety management stems from good leadership.

A thriving safety culture empowers employees at all levels of a company to think first and always about their own and their colleagues’ safety. This creates strong teams and infuses a sense that everyone can make their workplace better in every conceivable way. It starts with safety and it moves on to other areas, such as productivity and quality.

One remarkable example of this is Alcoa, where they experienced significant success after their incoming CEO, Paul O’Neill, positioned Safety as the company’s single priority in 1987. We will be using their example to see how the connection between Leadership and Safety plays out in “real life”.

This fully interactive webinar series will center on why good leadership matters so much, and we will review key Leadership skills that truly make a difference. We will also discuss the contrast between management and leadership, and why both approaches matter in different ways.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the series, participants will:

  • Identify the links between Leadership skills and Safety management
  • Recognize and be able to foster Leadership in their organization
  • Inventory their own Leadership skills
  • Identify any gaps and create a plan for Leadership skills development
  • Contrast Leadership skills with management skills
