As we look ahead to 2027, OSHA is outlining a shift in its approach to workplace safety, with an increased emphasis on hazard prevention, compliance assistance, and proactive safety programs.
For EHS professionals, employers, and safety leaders, there are some important developments worth watching! π
π Here’s what’s on OSHA’s radar for FY 2027:
β
Hazard Prevention & Enforcement: Greater emphasis on correcting hazards, providing worksite assistance, and focusing enforcement resources on high-risk workplaces.
β
Compliance Assistance: Expanded outreach to small and medium-sized businesses, including OSHA CARES and voluntary self-audit initiatives.
β
Safety Program Development: Increased promotion of the Safety Champions Program, On-Site Consultation, and Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP).
β
National Safety Campaigns: Continued attention to fall prevention, heat illness, workplace mental health, and Safe + Sound initiatives.
β
Modernization: Efforts to update existing regulations and improve the use of data and technology in workplace safety.
π‘ What does this mean for our safety community?
While enforcement strategies may evolve, our responsibility remains the same: identify hazards, protect workers, strengthen safety culture, and prevent injuries before they happen.
